A door manufacturer, not a distributor

Most companies selling doors online are distributors. They take your order, forward it to a mill, and forward the mill's lead time back to you. That is a legitimate business, but it is why a non-standard size so often comes back as "we will have to quote that."

Custom Doors USA is a door manufacturer. Slabs are machined, assembled and finished in our own shop in Memphis, TN, which is the reason a custom dimension gets a price on the page instead of a callback.

What we fabricate in house

CNC machining of stiles, rails and panels. Frame assembly and pre-hanging. Spray finishing and curing. Steel and iron fabrication, welding and grinding. Glazing of insulated and tempered units into our own frames.

What we do not make ourselves is glass and hardware. Glass is tempered regionally to our sizes and hardware comes from established suppliers, because there is no advantage to us reinventing a mortise lock.

Capability by material

As a wood door manufacturer we work in white oak, walnut, mahogany, alder, knotty cedar and paint-grade poplar. As a steel door manufacturer we fabricate welded security and utility assemblies including fire-rated units at 20, 45 and 90 minutes. We also build fiberglass, aluminum and glass door assemblies to size.

Interior, exterior and patio

An interior door manufacturer and an exterior door manufacturer are usually two different businesses, because the tooling and the finishing schedules are different. We run both, along with patio door assemblies, which is what lets a whole-house order ship as one consignment with one lead time instead of three.

Builders and trade

Multi-unit and whole-house orders are quoted per schedule rather than per door. Send an opening schedule and we return a priced list with a single ship week. Doors arrive tagged by unit and room.

Capacity and lead time

Standard lead time is 4 to 6 weeks from order confirmation. Prefinished, leaded and iron work adds one to two weeks. We do not quote lead times we cannot hold, and if a week slips we tell you before it does rather than after.

If you are searching for a door manufacturer near you, the practical question is not distance, it is whether the company holding your order is the company cutting the wood. We ship nationwide by crated freight, so the shop being in Michigan does not change your lead time in Arizona.
